Monsieur Lazhar (2011)

During a harsh Montréal winter, an elementary-school class is left reeling after its teacher commits suicide. Bachir Lazhar, a charismatic Algerian immigrant, steps in as the substitute teacher for the classroom of traumatized children. All the while, he must keep his personal life tucked away: the fact that he is seeking political refuge in Québec – and that he, like the children, has suffered an appalling loss.

Tout est dans les Ã©motions, juste bien rendues, pas de mÃ©lo, du plaisir Ã les vivre avec la belle histoire. La musique se fond aux images. Bravo.

Este es el cine que más me gusta. Historia simples contadas de tal forma que conmueven. No es necesario recurrir a efectos especiales o actores famosos para hacer un buen film. La película aborda temas complejos, en especial la diferencia cultural entre inmigrantes y canadienses, que se refleja en la educación, en este caso. 100% recomendable, y la crítica lo demuestra.

It's a hard truth that no American film can rival the artistic elegance of Monsieur Lazhar. We are too impatient. Phillippe Falanrdeau has directed a masterpiece. The pacing, acting, cinematography, sound design and plot pace are flawless. This the first movie that has brought tears to my eyes since the film version of Billy Budd. - Erie Chapman, The Hollywood Sentinel
