The dark comedy (punctuated by the catchphrase “Toodle-oo”) doesn’t always come off, and the filmmaking is more off-kilter than necessary, with capricious camerawork and pacing.

Never fear, Miss Meadows is here. I saw the movie as a unique, fairly odd but interesting imagination. It brings you to this fantasy of a quirky quaintrelle with modern hopeful values; that this world can be a better place. Katie Holmes will always be phenomenon; did a really good job at fulfilling all of our fantasy on this movie.

A whimsical Death Wish in a flowered dress, gloves, and tap shoes. Katie Holmes' characterization of Miss Meadows was spot on, down to the last Too-da-loo. It's a small, simple movie, but I loved it. Humorous, but serious when it needs to be. It didn't answer all the questions of Miss Meadows' past, or what the deal was with the mother. But no matter. It was enough to know that, for now at least, Miss Meadows settled down in one place. A nicely spent 1 1/2 hrs.

Enjoyable fantasy, with a fine performance from Katie Holmes and a good supporting cast. The script could have been tighter and the storyline becomes a little predictable but it's a quirky enough ride.
