It's hard for me to exactly explain why this film is so utterly beautiful. That said, it moved me to tears. Satoshi Kon has proven himself to not only be one of the most engaging animators, but also one of the finest writers for the medium. While the narrative weaves between fact and fiction, much of the story is open to interpretation. As such, we are provided with an ingenious depiction of the timelessness of love, and the endless search inherit with it. I cannot recommend this film more.

Kon Satoshi's tribute to the golden age of Japanese films of the 50s, this sequel to his explosive and imaginative debut, "Perfect Blue", is no less imaginative and continues his trend of breaking boundaries left and right.

I know some of you hate anime, but this is actually a very good movie. It's a movie that could be made into a live;action film and people would still love it.

The more I think about it, the more I fall in love with the layers upon layers of storytelling that Kon effortlessly weaves together. Eliminating the line between reality and fantasy, the film is not only a journey through a millenium, but through the mind and heart of an actress whose romantic quest drives this engaging story forward full force.
