This is the kind of mad science filmmaking worth rooting for: Aster refashions “The Wicker Man” as a perverse breakup movie, douses Swedish mythology in Bergmanesque despair, and sets the epic collage ablaze. He may not land every big swing, but the underlying vision is hard to shake even when it falters.

Instant classic. I know that this movie will be underrated, it is not your typical movie and definetely not a typical horror. Even if you didn't understood the meaning and brilliance behind this masterpiece, you can't deny that it is absolutely top notch from technical side. Ari Aster outdid himself.

Midsommar is a very brave film in trying to overcome it's own ambition, and it leaves a strong impression on the public, despite everything. Even if the narrative comes and goes, an act of brutality at the beginning plants a feeling of discomfort that only grows by the minute, and ties it all up by embracing pure hysteria, with a noisy, comical and rather strange conclusion. Shocking and confusing the audience between laughter and disgust seems to be the goal and only a film that's essentially confusing to deliver it on a platter. The taste may be strange but it's also, in a way, unique.

Aster’s bold flourishes occasionally fall flat, but Florence Pugh holds the film together — especially when its plotting stumbles or its shocks grow predictable.

The story is somewhat predictable after some point. The movie is worth watching, and maybe you are one of the people who thinks it´s one of the best movies ever. I am not and wasn´t very affected by it. It reminded me too much of The Wicker Man.
