Miami Vice (2006)

A case involving drug lords and murder in South Florida takes a personal turn for undercover detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Dark, mumbly, harsh and unlike any action movie before it. What little stylization Heat had has been stripped down to the bare bones for a white-knuckle thrill in harsh, natural lit, world.

Like with Heat, it'll take a decade for this movie to be recognized for it's simply beautiful ability to turn character cliches upside down. Every review says that the Fox and Farrell lacked chemistry. It wasn't a buddy cop movie. It wasn't a plot twist movie. It was us watching bleakly as good-guys brought bad things upon themselves. Heat caught people because they empathized with the bad guys... but it was also a story about how Al Pacino's character destroyed himself and his family for the sake of his job. I think this is a deeper exploration of that concept. If there was to be a character to empathize with, it was Foxx being pulled into hell by his partner's arrogance. This film is slow, beautiful, and almost poetic... a real gem in the action-crime-drama genre.

Aclaremos primero una cosa: Michael Mann, el director de la version filmica de "Miami Vice", es tambien el artifice de la serie de television. Eso le da la autoridad para hacer con su creacion lo que le de la gana. El resultado es una magnifica pelicula de accion, con escenas que dejan sin aliento, una estupenda quimica entre Colin Farrell y Jamie Foxx y una maestria en estilo y manejo del espacio. "Miami Vice" es una estupenda pelicula, todo un clasico. Y el que presente alguna objecion al respecto tan solo le tengo una pregunta: Te gusta Pollock?
