A nice movie about a guy who "keeps on" "keeping on" despite life's setbacks.

Nice little film directed by Jonathan Demme starring Paul Le Mat, Mary Steenburgen, and Jason Robards. I liked the way the film focused mainly on Melvin and his life, but Robards does so much with so little screentime, I would have loved to see more of him, but then it would have ruined the meaning of the film. Worthy winner of Best Original Screenplay, and Steenburgen gives a great Oscar winning performance.

This 1980 buddy/loser/biopic follows what happens after down-and-outer Melvin Dummar picks up a bum-ish Howard Hughes off the side of a desert road. Due to the era this film was made in, there are a heap of imperfections (not to mention profanity and nudity), but also an interesting real-life story that won the film a couple Oscars way back when.

Mary Steenburgen wins oscar and shows her girls off in one of her forst movies. This is a semi-true story of a man who ended up as the beneficiary on one of the MANY Howard Hughs will that appeared after his death. he may have written them all from what we know now.

Well made movie with a pretty good story and good performances..fact that its a true story makes it more interesting..and if it was true to the movie story its sad that it doesnt work out ....
