Manufacturing Dissent (2007)
"Michael Moore doesn't like documentaries. That's why he doesn't make them." A documentary that looks to distinguish what's fact, fiction, legend, and otherwise as a camera crew trails Michael Moore as he tours with his film, Fahrenheit 9/11.

Despite the fact that he popularises themes that more people should know of and take action about, I'm not particularly keen on Michael Moore. It doesn't take a genius to work out that he's only in it for the money and is driven by his very clearly egotistical personality. I've never considered his rabble rousing to be a genuine desire to effect social change or expose truth, and he clearly makes a profit off the back of other people's suffering, which I don't really have a lot of respect for. So this documentary doesn't really tell me anything that I needed to know or hadn't heard already. It's also confusing, poorly constructed and fails to make its points coherently. The only conclusions I can draw are that I wish Moore had some integrity and that the main criticism in this film boils down to whether or not moore is a documentary film maker, or a man making films to popularise his own political beliefs. Which is kinda petty, all things considered.

a clear case for the argument that even though many feel that Moore's heart is in the right place, more often than not his work is detrimental to the cause, and he is more like a lying sack of shit than an artist. this also contains convincing evidence that the hollywood liberal elite have shit for brains....though again, with hearts in the right place.

What Canadian documentarians Caine and Melnyk lack in the filmish flair of target Moore's own documentaries, they make up for in simple facts bared. Love or loathe Moore's politics (and the filmmakers are anti-war leftists), he is revealed to be a liar and manipulator, betraying friends like Ralph Nader, stage managing many of his famous 'spontaneous' encounters, and disappearing inconvenient film reels. One thing is obvious, the facts on Moore were available as early as 'Roger and Me', and no one (me included) paid attention. A fascinating documentary, if not a great film, arguing that Moore could not exist and thrive in an environment where the left responsibly confronted and questioned the Bush Administration, and is symptomatic of the puerile slacker-left that dominates progressive discourse to its own harm. The DVD's deleted scene with Ray Bradbury is my favourite moment.

An entertaining documantery that obviously had a lot of work put inot it. These people went through an incredible amount of seemingly hard to find footage ino redr to piece this thing together. The filmmaker claims to have started the film as a suporter and I'm not entirley sure that I buy that but it's faily convincing in many parts. Also, interesting to see many of Moore's tactics used against him.
