Made in L.A. (2007)

Made in L.A. follows the remarkable story of three Latina immigrants working in Los Angeles garment sweatshops as they embark on a three-year odyssey to win basic labor protections from a mega-trendy clothing retailer. In intimate verité style, Made in L.A. reveals the impact of the struggle on each woman's life as they are gradually transformed by the experience. Compelling, humorous, deeply human, Made in L.A. is a story about immigration, the power of unity, and the courage it takes to find your voice.

I don't know a lot about documentaries, but this one seemed pretty good to me!

My friend Christine reminded me that I had seen this movie. A no holds barred look at the clothing industry and the status of illegal aliens in the trade.

A well done, socially conscious documentary following three immigrant women who challenge the big business for wages above minimum. Branches into topics such as gender, race, and economic relations between classes and sufficiently engrossing throughout.

The struggle of sweatshop workers in L.A. is shown sympathetically, but realistically. A leftist documentary that doesn't end on a downer.

Denise O 04 Sep 2007

The story of LA sweatshop workers who protested Forever 21 for three years.
