Mad Women (2015)

A mother of three daughters (one died at the age of three) commits a crime of conscience and becomes radicalized in prison; she turns into an idealist run amok, determined to change her little corner of the world for the better. Her middle daughter, with a physician for a father, an older sister who joins Doctors Without Borders, and a baby sister who dies, is fanatically trying to find a place for herself in this family of overachievers.

It’s a good thing writer-director Jeff Lipsky is a film distributor in real life. He’s his own best hope for getting this dreck out there.

Mad Women is punishingly dull and apparently aimless, without any real conflict driving the story, just confounding and ridiculous interactions among the characters.

David Edelstein 12 Jul 2015

I like the movie, though. It forced me to rethink the way sexual desire saturates everything, along with extreme vulnerability of children.

Serena Donadoni 06 Jul 2015

The biggest problem in Lipsky's scattershot narrative is situational ethics.

Neil Genzlinger 08 Jul 2015

This film overstays its welcome and has pacing problems. But its eclectic characters certainly linger.
