Pasek and Paul’s songs end up having to do much of the emotional heavy lifting, and the rest of the film feels cobbled together from random parts scavenged from other kids’ movies and pop culture ephemera.

My family loved the movie and central messages about family and belonging. It's got a great cast and soundtrack. Shawn Mendes voiced Lyle beautifully giving a lot of emotions through his singing, while the CGI team used Lyle's expressions when he wasn't singing.
