A sequence of set pieces that appear to have been written by a committee of 13yr old boys.

This is a shockingly poor movie. So riddled with clices and vacuous ideas, brain dead scriptwriting, pity the main actor is good, but the story is abysmal, shallow, ho hum... in fact I'm writing this as the climax is happening... it is just soooo dull. The motivations for many of the characters to do and say the things they do are just arbitrary and lack insight, intelligence, creativity, ANYTHING POSITIVE.

One of the main pleasures of the TV series was how Cross and co. always had Luther caught in the crosscurrents of two conflicting agendas, and the tension of that juggling act provided much of the pleasure, especially when it all (mostly) worked out. Fallen Sun is a rote and simpleminded letdown by comparison.

Director Jamie Payne keeps things moving, certainly, and the action is appropriately gruesome. But you can see where a little more time to tell the story would have helped.

With enough suspense, action and violence for crime-thriller fans and enough Idris Elba for Idris Elba fans, Luther: The Fallen Sun needn’t have a message as well. But here it is: Tell Alexa to get out of your house. And take Siri with her.
