What I appreciate about this film is the behind the scenes footage. I have never seen it compiled like this (thought I'm sure other compilations exist). Other than that, the actresses reading her words felt painfully awkward at times. Actors reading the male parts were even worse. Some overacted, some hardly acted at all (ahem Lindsay Lohan).

Garbus' use of Monroe's own words are plenty wrenching at times but they don't add much to our collective understanding of either the enduring myth or the truth about the damaged woman who existed behind that sexpot façade.

a beautiful production... taken from journals of Marilyn Monroe, I felt that she was telling her story from her perspective. It was sad to witness her painful journey, so complicated by her battle with substance abuse which is evident throughout this documentary.

A heartfelt and well-intentioned love letter to an already deeply beloved star, and for anyone who's still not convinced, the picture works hard to make the case for Monroe's gifts as an actress.

Do any fresh revelations or insights remain, a half century past Monroe's overdose death at age 36?
