Sonia arrives in Trinidad with her two children to join her husband Jo who is working as an oil engineer. On the surface she lives a life of luxury in a large houses with servants. The days are uneventful and blend together into an everlasting holiday, where the women nurse their superficial relationships over cocktails poolside – the perfect climate for self-delusion.

i liked it but the end made be angry, but once again beautifully filmed by John Sayles

This film is one of the biggest disgraces I have ever witnessed. What actually was the point?

Good John Sayles film starring David Strathairn and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. I haven't seen many Sayles films, but this is a nice character study of a mother daughter relationship and the man that comes into their lives. It's got a beautiful Alaskan setting and it takes a great turn halfway through the film. Some great dialogue and I loved the ending.

A fantastic film that's a great "test" movie. People either get it or don't. The acting is superb, there are no special effects, and it is dialogue driven. No wonder it's a cult film. The much talked about ending...I LOVED it! If you have no idea what this movie is about, see it with as little preconceptions as possible. Terrific flick.

There's thousands of good writers in the US (though they're even better at striking) but few have the vision of Sayles. Nice one geez
