Life Stinks (1991)

Affluent and arrogant businessman Goddard Bolt, feuding with rival Vance Crasswell over a land deal, makes a bet with Crasswell that he has the wits and street smarts to live penniless and anonymous on the rough streets of Los Angeles for thirty days. But Bolt has a rude awakening when the reality of homelessness hits him. Still, he finds a silver lining in a burgeoning romance with Molly, a former Broadway dancer who has fallen on hard times.

The ending is cheap and overdone, but the rest of it is top-notch. Brooks proves he can do subdued material.

this is why Mel Brooks is a good filmmaker. never loses his witty, slapstick comedic form and still manages to throw a touch of pointed realism in for good measure. his later films really have nothing on his earlier stuff, but mmm, that's good satire.

i thought this movie was brilliant. mel brooks has a view on comedy that no one else has. if you disagree, and think he is not funny, then you obviously have no sense of humor. this movie is witty, and shows how classifying people is wrong.
