At three years old, a chatty, energetic little boy named Owen Suskind ceased to speak, disappearing into autism with apparently no way out. Almost four years passed and the only stimuli that engaged Owen were Disney films. Then one day, his father donned a puppet—Iago, the wisecracking parrot from Aladdin—and asked "what's it like to be you?" And poof! Owen replied, with dialogue from the movie. Life, Animated tells the remarkable story of how Owen found in Disney animation a pathway to language and a framework for making sense of the world.

The film's effects are maybe a little directly sentimental, but this is a tremendous true story of family love.

Disney's role in the lives of children around the world is indisputable, but the company would be hard-pressed to find a better example to be proud of than the autistic subject of Life, Animated.

A charming & quite moving documentary about a young man with autism & his journey to communicate which ended up being Walt Disney films. The style of film is unique in the sense of the contemporary interviews where live action & his past & his mind was stunningly animated. This film chronicles the parents struggle & ultimately his victory as being independent. It's moving, humorous & incredible how much we can learn from people who are different.
