It's a spirited experiment in documentary form, with the directors showing great imagination in their fusion of new and archival footage, and their portrait of Cooke, assembled largely from offhand moments, conveying a sharp dramatic sensibility.

Lenny Cooke isn't a documentary, it's an autopsy, detailing exactly why Cooke vanished off the map and why he struggled to get back into the game, a focus that goes micro where other sports docs go macro.

I wish the whole movie were edited like the final scene, that was what I expected! This is an unusual documentary, maybe unique, but not that interesting

The filmmakers imbue the found footage with their own wistful voice-Cooke could be one of their fictional characters, and, with modest yet ingenious special effects, they make it so.

Showtime 2/10/14 The hand held camera was a little distracting but the story was good. Ignorance, environment, posses, family, lack of work ethic and a thousand other distractions can be the moral of this story. Wasted talent is an all too common story in ghetto basketball/life.
