Eighty-nine year old trumpeting legend Clark Terry has mentored jazz wonders like Miles Davis and Quincy Jones, but Terry's most unlikely friendship is with Justin Kauflin, a 23-year-old blind piano player with uncanny talent, but debilitating nerves. As Justin prepares for the most pivotal moment in his budding career, Terry's ailing health threatens to end his own.

Excellent documentary on the mentoring of a young, blind pianist by a legendary jazz trumpeter. With so much negativeness in the world, this gives you hope that pure goodness still exists. I knew nothing about Clark Terry before seeing this film - what a treat seeing two people so passionate about their music.

There's no need to be a jazz aficionado to enjoy this story, as the film is not just a description of music icon but a rare chance at seeing, in reality, both the beginning and the end of a highly unlikely dream.

As the title implies, though, Keep on Keepin’ On has more on its mind. The film’s as much about the young Kauflin’s struggles — as a 21st-century Asian-American naïf trying to succeed in a 20th-century art form created by African-Americans, as a blind man navigating the often callous New York jazz scene. It’s also about the ongoing health of jazz itself as the music recedes further from the mainstream into the protective world of festivals and small clubs.
