Katalin Varga (2009)

In the beautiful, otherworldly Carpathian Mountains a woman is traveling with a small boy in a horse and cart, looking to punish those who once abused her. For years, Katalin has been keeping a terrible secret. Hitchhiking with two men, she was brutally raped in the woods. Although she has kept silent about what happened, she has not forgotten, and her son Órban serves as a living reminder.

a brief and interesting to watch romanian film concerning a woman, katalin varga travelling with her son, with a reason not entirely clear at start, but once film moves on, you see her motive, some really good moments of drama, especially from the lead. arguably the film could have gone on for longer, but for what we see, enough is told to make it clear and go away happy with what i seen

Tom Hutchinson 08 Oct 2009

Tidy revenge tragedy that successfully resists the influence of the Romanian New Wave.

Peter Bradshaw 08 Oct 2009

A slow-moving, insistently gripping, faintly Dostoyevskian tale of violence and retribution set in the swooningly photographed Hungarian countryside.

Kevin Maher 08 Oct 2009

A complex moral terrain and slow-burning tone reminiscent of Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love) announce the arrival of a genuine film-making talent.
