An Argentian masterpiece. I saw it at the Vancouver Film Fest.

I like the actors, I like the director, I don't really like the film. It's too slow and a bit boring. Cecilia Roth and Ricardo Darin have made so many great films, so if you want to watch a film to see them, don't chose this one. It's not an awful movie, it's just... don't know, don't like it.

A superbly acted and directed film about the 'dirty war' in Argentina in the 1970s, when thousands of people disappeared without a trace. This distressing period is excellently depicted by focusing on the plight of one middle-class family and how it's slowly made invisible from the society.

A family drama and a bildungsfilm, yes, but make no mistake, this is a deeply political movie. Compares favourably to Chile's "Machuca", which has a somewhat similar plot. "Kamchatka" found a new (and better) way to tell an old (and sad) story. The Darin-Roth duo works extremely well, and only hearts of stone will not be moved by the final sequences.
