A dark, intelligent and violent animated adaptation of DC's Justice League Dark team. Full tilt action and frightening imagery make this one of the stronger DC animated films.

The 'dark' of the title may have some magical connotation, but what sets this team apart is their contrast to the straight-laced do-gooders of the Justice League, they have other priorities and the film's exploration of these and the way the difference is used to subvert expectations is where it triumphs. The actual magic weighs it down more than anything, the problem with magic based on spells is that there are no rules to it's hard to be concerned for our heroes' defeat or impressed by their safety. While it's nice to see a different part of the DC universe given the spotlight, but there's almost too much mythology, backstories are given where they aren't needed, and they eat into the short runtime. Still the characters are all interesting, they have great chemistry with one another and they are worth watching as they provide a great deal of laughs and just a little bit of heart.

Poorly paced and acted, confused and teeming with unutilized potential. Justice League Dark was somewhat enjoyable on the merit that it wasn't really long enough to overstay its welcome. The film has an odd obsession with Batman who really could have just as well not been in the movie at all. You can also go ahead and scribble out Swamp Thing's face on the cover as he is a completely shoe-horned and unnecessary character. The only thing supernatural about this movie is how uncannily it resembled a good one.
