I really don’t comprehend why this movie did so bad. I think it was probably just the time that the movie was brought out. I think with the correct marketing and if this was brought out now. It would do great. This movie is one of my favourite movies, it’s super underrated. The way the story was told throughout the move was intelligently and strategically put together. I love how it started of as a basic movie that was based in the early 1900’s then transitioned into this action based fantasy. It was like Sherlock Holmes turned even more of a bad ass. There was story, emotion, imagination, adventure, love, action and a super cute alien dog. What more could you want. As someone who has watched probably thousands of movies this is definitely a great watch. I understand differing opinions, especially with movies. This is certainly not a movie that deserves distasteful comments or ridiculed because of how much money it made.

I was very skeptical of this movie, I had read the plot of the books online and it sounded just too hard to accept. Then the commercials did not really shine--they focused so much on action. My father told me that the movie was great, watch it, and basically shut up on the criticisms til I had seen it. He was totally right. The richest parts of the film are the internal conflicts of the main character. The flashbacks do a beautiful job of explaining so much in mere seconds. Combine that with the civil war and lost causes and bam...great stuff. The suspension of disbelief was quite easy and about 15 minutes in it was easy to accept this view of the solar system and forget all about rovers on Mars and what we scientifically know. The final 15 minutes are a brilliant, simply brilliant ending with some twists that I won't ruin for you.

Magical! Can't understand why it's done so bad... great story full of wonder, fantasy and sci-fi with twists and spectacular grandiose scenes and worlds. A true triamph of the imagination! Just let yourself go as if you were a child and enjoy, none of these over analytical questions about why he can jump etc.. movies are better when not everything is explained.. this will become a definate cult movie!

What the critics missed was that this was not the wall-to-wall action-fest that Disney promoted -- it was a romantic sci-fi saga that remained true to the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels AND had wonderfully stirring action in support of that. What I will remember most is the absolutely flawless pacing of the entire movie from beginning to end.

This movie was a fun rip roaring yarn, that deserves a sequel. Not a bad movie, just a good pulply lovey adventure epic with lot's of scope that suffered from bad marketing and politics. Honestly...this is the way sci fi should be, with heart, soul and not affraid of being a little cheesey, but never the less with a touch of true class i feel many films lack these days.
