Starring: Glenn Close, Jeff Bridges, Robert Loggia, Lance Henriksen, James Karen, and Peter Coyote. Directed by Richard Marquand. Written by Joe Eszterhas. Rated [b]R[/b] (for strong sexuality and violence, and for language). Running time approximately 1 hour 48 minutes. The best I've yet seen of Eszterhas-penned thrillers, [i]Jagged Edge[/i] really delivers the goods. It's truly frightening and very engaging, with one heck of an effective ending that really makes the tiny hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The direction is nothing special, but Close, Bridges, and Loggia are all quite wonderful in what could have been a disastrous film. It's not, and that's the best part. [b]***1/2 (out of ****) B+[/b]

1/2/2009 movie 6 of a 24 hour movie marathon I liked this more than i thought i would, but i think i may also feel defensive... the guys were dogging Glenn Close, but she really isn't ugly... i don't get it

The plot itself is as convoluted and confusing as a lot of the Japanse Yazuka/martial arts films are, and near to the end I'd forgotten who half the characters were and what their purpose was. But with action scenes this good, I couldn't have cared less. The first film in the US to receive an 'X' rating solely for its violence, The Streetfighter revels in its over-the-top blood letting, and is all the better for it. Mouthfuls of teeth are knocked out, a skull is shattered in X-ray vision, and the aforementioned castration scene has Chiba gleefully holding the prize possession in the air once it's been removed. Big, stupid, and very gory fun.

The film entertains and is quite stylish. I dislike the genre and the ending is predictable.
