Inside Deep Throat (2005)

In 1972, a seemingly typical shoestring budget pornographic film was made in a Florida hotel: "Deep Throat," starring Linda Lovelace. This film would surpass the wildest expectation of everyone involved to become one of the most successful independent films of all time. It caught the public imagination which met the spirit of the times, even as the self-appointed guardians of public morality struggled to suppress it, and created, for a brief moment, a possible future where sexuality in film had a bold artistic potential. This film covers the story of the making of this controversial film, its stunning success, its hysterical opposition along with its dark side of mob influence and allegations of the on set mistreatment of the film's star.

This one's for all the bad artists out there. Flashy funny sad and erotic if you try hard enough. super indie film (Deep Throat, not the doc)

...if you are an adventurous filmgoer and can stand the challenge of the controversy, you'll get an eye opener.

Awesome awesome movie. If you ever wanted to know what the big deal with "Deep Throat" was, by all means, check this out. One of the most interesting movies about movies I've ever seen. It is refreshing to see such lurid subject matter treated in a serious way. Still, it remains very funny, both intentionally and un-intentionally (even though I suspect that the film makers KNEW a lot of the "un-funny" stuff would be funny.) The inclusion of Hugh Heffner, Erica Jong, Dick Cavett and (especially) Wes Craven puts a lot of what went on around this movie into perspective. What is no big deal today, a porno movie attracting mainstream attention, was a HUGE deal in the early 70's. I highly recommend this, but don't forget, it IS about one of the most notorious porn movies ever, so keep the kiddies away.

a surprisingly illuminating and intriguing analysis of "deep throat" and its cultural implications. it's fascinating without being crude. really, an excellent documentary for even the marginally curious.
