A really cool story, historical fiction mixed with literature, great, great cast. The whole movie, especially the scenes with The Whale are absolutely awe-inspiring, you feel like you're on the ship with the crew.

Don't believe the critics!! This movie is fantastic!! My wife and I simply loved it. I suspect that the critics are being driven by some political correctness or animal rights nonsense because their bad reviews are absurd!!

Understandably they avoided some of the more difficult subjects in the book, playing down the cannabilism, racism and horrific effects of starvation. They take the Moby Dick angle and milked it, bending the truth I suspect for dramatic effect. All that to one side it's a very good film showing clearly the tensions between the captain and first mate. It does favour Chase, again for dramatic effect, whereas Nickerson's account clearly showed Chase's own distortion of the facts. Well worth seeing.

I really enjoyed this film and don't understand all the bad reviews. A historical piece with great cinematography, a very big whale and all-around to finish fine film. Anyone who sails or taken to the ocean at some time would appreciate this movie.
