A dramatization of one man's rescue of Jewish refugees in the Nazi-occupied city of Lviv. In Darkness tells the true story of Leopold Soha who risks his own life to save a dozen people from certain death. Initially only interested in his own good, the thief and burglar hides Jewish refugees for 14 months in the sewers of the Nazi-occupied town of Lviv (formerly Poland).

In Darkness is as grim as its title suggests. It's also well worth watching, as a piece of art and as a hymn to the human spirit that, as the movie reminds us, can survive just about anything.

a well made war drama based on truth story, about Socha a polish man who helped some jews during WW2 he bring them food and stuff at end they survived ...

A masterpiece. I just love Holland's work in it. It's kind of like the Das Boot of sewer movies. Excellent cast, stunning cinematography/camera work and masterful use of light. I would put Holland up against any director on the planet, she's that good. She even throws in lots of Bourne Identity-type handheld shots just to show she can master any style.

This tale of fugitive Polish Jews hiding under the streets of Lvov, aided by a reluctant Catholic sewerage inspector, may be based on true events, but it sometimes feels like an entire season of soap opera scripts crammed into feature length.
