I have seen other Bio's about Hef, this one is definitely more detailed. There is some skimming and editing. There are some feminists points of view. The overall story is ofcourse interesting; American Icon, breaks barriers, etc. Some parts were a little slow but over all very good.

A well-deserved tribute to an American icon that manages to turn the nation's most-famous dirty old man into a champion of racial justice right before your very eyes. Who knew?

This is a very compelling biography of an incredible man. Not only has Hugh M. Hefner built an empire from next to nothing, he has, interestingly, been a champion of social causes throughout his life and career. He has been involved, both directly and indirectly, including, but not limited to: the Civil Rights Movement, desegregation, and Women's issues (abortion, contraceptives, etc.). His intelligence and compassion are unparalled. Yet, he is still villified in the media and by the conservative Right, as well as so-called 'feminist' organizations. He has left a tremendous legacy, which will be hard to match.

A very engaging doc which is quite remarkable from the sense that it hits on a lot of his activism to break various sexual taboos, social taboos along with various causes of the time regarding racial relations and such rather than focusing strictly on the company and the brand that he founded. Very well spoken and it is quite interesting all of the subjects they brought into speak regarding him, most surprising has to be George Lucas. Biggest thing bout it is the span of the time they cover and the frankness. Full marks.

I started watching out of curiousity and was completely captured by the number of items where Hef influenced human rights. I had no idea of his involvement in fighting segegration and contraception laws although I do recall some information about some of his battles for the various sex laws. If you are a person that believes he is famous for exploiting women in the magazine I suggest you watch with an open mind.
