After the death of Raya Green's sister, she gets out from her classes at school, and sees a stomp crew practicing. She meets Bishop which is the dance crew leader. She then meets Michelle and does a stomp battle with her. They become enemies then friends later on. Her uptight mom pushes her to pass the test to get into Medical school, but she thinks she failed....

the movie follows formula to a tee but Rutina Wesley's performance is the best part next to the incredible dancing scenes Raya just lost her sister so her mother cant keep her in private school, the only resort is to go back home to finish her education there's a lot of bad blood waiting for her since she's stepping into a world she left behind and she wants to get out of it so badly when a stomping dance crew competition presents itself Raya may just have a chance at getting a scholarship but she has to learn the moves and the respect by others who know way more about it than she does plus she isn't the only one who has it bad in this neighborhood there's also a strong female empowerment feel to the whole thing as guys get more of the cut from the winnings but Raya can change all that being part of an all-male crew unoriginal flick but lead by a strong actress with the passion as well as some pretty sweet dance moves

I'm tired of jaded people writing jaded reviews. Yes, this is your usual dance movie, and yes the ending was predictable. But if you could for just one moment of your life, allow yourself to be moved, those things won't matter. The fact that it's Canadian, and so well done is one great factor, but another is that though some might have felt the serious of the film dampened the mood, I feel it did just the opposite. The realism, the darkness, the edginess helped to not only heighten the mood, but your experience with the characters as well. There were no ground breaking performances, but everyone was equally believable, and the stepping was phenominal. This movie, above many others, shows what real, straight-from-the-gut passion is all about. Tracey Armstrong moved me, and this movie moved me. Go and be moved.
