After failing to save his wife from 'The Doctor', Kit Li is working as a bodyguard and secret stunt double for the cowardly martial arts film star Frankie Lane. Frankie attends an exhibition of the crown jewels of Russia at a Hong Kong hotel, and when the Doctor's gang take over the building in attempt to steal them, Kit is the only thing standing in their way. Ive seen some stupid films, but this one goes above and beyond. Thats why I like it so much. Its so bad that its good. And if you cant understand that than I dont know what else to say. The cheesy english voices remind me of kung pow and that makes it even better.

I remember seeing this @ the midnight showings my local theater always had of HK films back in the glory days BM/D (Before Miramax/Disney). High Risk is about a spoiled rotten action star (played to perfection by Jackie Cheung)- who is completely based on Jackie Chan- who has a bodyguard/stuntman (Jet Li, in a role he could play in his sleep). A lot of chuckles are provided by Jing's deliciously merciless presentation of the "Jackie" character, who is a hypocritical rake who doesn't do his own stunts. The movie is less about the plot than about the myriad of explosions, crazy set pieces, and high adrenaline fights. The movie delivers this in good measure. More or less, if you've seen Die Hard, you know the basic premise of this movie. Being a Wong Jing film, it is also notoriously unbalanced and your mileage may vary in terms of what you can stomach in the movies he makes.
