Hierro (2009)

Traveling on a ferry heading to the island of Hierro where they will spend their holidays, Mary loses her son Diego, and no one can explain what happened. Nicely shot on a barren Canary Island, el Hierro this is an icy horror which never makes clear whether it is supernatural or not. The island itself can be seen as representing the state of the central characters mind and mental disintegration. Anaya in the lead role is very good, so altough far from perfect it is an interesting adition to a spate of maternity and madness horrors.

Excellent movie with a fascinating cinematography and really engaging soundtrack. The plot's predictability affects the overall experience, but this is still a great story about the mind of a mother that lost her child.

Hierro est un peu le film annonciateur (aprÃ¨s la purge Aparecidos) de la fin du rÃ¨gne hispanique sur le cinÃ (C)ma de genre. Le rÃ (C)al est loin d'Ãªtre un manchot (les images sont trÃ¨s belles), mais l'intrigue est tellement convenue et prÃ (C)visible que Ã§a en devient gÃªnant.
