Hi, Mom! (1970)

Vietnam vet Jon Rubin returns to New York and rents a rundown flat in Greenwich Village. It is in this flat that he begins to film, 'Peeping Tom' style, the people in the apartment across the street. His obsession with making films leads him to fall in with a radical 'Black Power' group, which in turn leads him to carry out a bizarre act of urban terrorism.

Saw it once a few years back, and remember it as kind of an interesting mess of a film. Need to see it again sometime.

A unique film, interesting to see DeNiro and DePalma in an effort before they were household names. Creative and I found it interesting. It does lack focus at times though. It is certainly very daring for the time era.

Before turning into a suspense auteur, Brian DePalma directed this subversive little film, heavily inspired by the vanguardist french nouvelle vague. A sequel of "greetings" in which he let DeNiro run the show with amazingly funny results.

Fact: Jon Rubin is Travis Bickle. (or Travis Bickle is Jon Rubin)This is very fucking obvious. Both are porn movie lovers. Both are lonely. Both cite their mother. Both are Vietnam War veteran who searches for a way out for his mediocre life through the violence against the social environment. All right, Jon Travis Rubin Bickle. Let's blow up a laundry room, kill a politician and a few pimps. Haha."I'd like to say something. I'm just sick of this bullshit!... Hi, Mom!"

A gem among lost films. truly, it needs cult classification, and is inaccessible to most movie watchers, but it is an intelligent picture, capturing the times around it's filming. with points of absurdity and hilarity colliding with the seriousness of the anti-government movement among young impressionable individuals.
