The laughs come at a rapid-fire pace, but the comedy sometimes veers into hokey, over-the-top set pieces.

It’s hard to pick apart a film that is as well-intentioned as Here Today, which earnestly wants to celebrate life, and every beautiful, tragic, poignant and surprising moment. But for a film that seeks to be so humanist, there’s only one truly human character in it. As likable as he is, that oversight is impossible to ignore.

Billy Crystal is a comedic genius in my opinion. This film that he has written and starred in portrays just that. A heartwarming story which will make you laugh aloud and moisten your eyes later. By far a very entertaining & emotional screenplay.

A comedy afflicted with terminal unfunniness, Here Today, which is playing in theaters, may well be gone tomorrow.

Brian Lowry 07 May 2021

As thin star showcases go, it's an occasionally effective bit of comfort food, arriving as theaters reopen and served with a generous side of schmaltz.
