Harry Coombes is a retired teacher in his 70s who has lived in the Upper West Side of New York City all his life. When his building is torn down to make way for a parking garage, Harry and his beloved cat Tonto begin a journey across the United States — visiting his children, seeing a world he never seemed to have the time to see before, making new friends, and saying goodbye to old friends.

A gem of a movie, "Harry and Tonto" explores concepts about life through an elderly mans journey with his beloved cat Tonto to find himself. Art Carney's finest role, This is a quiet thinking movie. But if your in the mood for an excellent performance and a thought provoking film this is the movie for you.

Amazing to see what a real movie is like. Characters, acting, plot, cool old 70s cars. Great!!!

This is a gentle, feeling but not sentimental account of an old man searching for a new life after the rich old ones ended in NYC. This is not a "bucket-list", nor a nostalgic remembrance of the past. Harry moves on with time and situation, accepting and offering good wills, sunsetting with the road from east to the diffused glories of the west coast.
