Hannibal Brooks (1969)

A POW in World War II is put to work in a Munich zoo, looking after an Asian elephant. The zoo is bombed by the Americans and the director of the zoo decides it is not safe for his Asian elephant Lucy to remain there. So he sends Brooks to safety with Lucy. They escape and go on the run in order to get to Switzerland.

set around world war II, with little twists but some great german scenery. a very different kind of war film, the first of itz kind i have seen. for those who want to have a light moment with family, should give this one a shot. theres a lot to like about the film, itz entertaining well acted and has an exciting climax and eventually a happy ending :D did i just blow it?

I'm not opposed to war movies, but having seen so many there didn't seem to be any room for any originality. As this movie started, I thought it was going to be just another cliche, war movie. How wrong I was! Humour, great writing, and brilliant performances by Oliver Reed and the fellow cast. Enjoyed this film immensely.

Oliver Reed + Elephant = success! Don't be put off by the idea of a film about the war, there's more to it than that. There are sad and happy moments, all in all, a nice film.

SO FUNNY! Classic Michael Winner/Oliver Reed combo. The silliest, campest war movie ever, but funny, silly, touching and Michael J. Pollard steals the show.
