Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969)

When Mexican revolutionary leader Quintero is left to rot in jail by the forces of President Diaz, it's up to his subordinate, Max, to bust him out. With $600 in hand, he crosses the border into America and hires Chris Adams, a mercenary of considerable skill, who uses the rest of the cash on more hired guns. After the team is rounded out by experts on close-combat fighting, explosives, and knife-throwing, they set off to free Quintero.

no link to the first & second, but still watchable

Solid western. Not a sequel as much as it is a remake in a way. Bernie Casey and Joe Don Baker were amazing together and you really get to seem them work well before they get real famous.

160130: The biggest problem with this film, other than the occasional flaw, is the pace. She just putts along, not quite quick enough, not quite exciting enough. Michael Ansara, as Col. Diego, makes a great villain. Decent film but following in awful big footsteps.

George Kennedy puts a pose together to help some Mexicans and I must say these Mexicans get treated fairly poorly; they're dragged by horses, hung on telephone poles & buried up to their heads & trampled to death. It's up to the (not so) Magnificent 7 plus about 20 farmers to go 27 against 200 to save the Mexican prisoners & a revolutionary leader. Even though these are insurmountable odds the Magnificent 7 prevail the impossible most of them are gunned down so this is not completely preposterous..just partially
