Guilty (2015)

A hitman Jack is slowly wandering into a red light district. As he walks through the alley, everyone avoid eye contact with him because of his extremely ugly face. Ting Ting is the only prostitute that did not reject him. Jack finds a scar on the stomach of Ting Ting which was wounded by a gunshot. Ting Ting on the other hand stares at the giant lump on Jack's face without showing any sign of fear. The two of them quickly form a bond and Jack could not bear to leave Ting Ting alone. He decides to take Ting Ting out of her miserable life at any cost. From then on, their lives turns out differently.

"Talvar" is a very effective true crime thriller that really kept me on the edge of my seat. Since I knew nothing about what happened in real life, I didn't know what to expect. The mystery element of the movie is handled well and all of the possible theories for the crime committed in the movie are explained. I also really liked Irrfan Khan's performance and thought his character was the best part of the movie. Even in the slower patches of the movie, every second he was on screen was great. I can't blame the movie for being based on an unsolved case, but because of that, I felt it lacked closure and it was a tad bit frustrating. However, in the movie's defense, I think that is how they want you to feel because it is showing a situation where true justice was missing. It's not the most pleasant movie out there, but it is a fascinating and intelligent movie that will certainly raise many questions.

Amazing piece of cinematic material for Indian cinema, its portrayal of Indian Police, CBI and the Bureaucracy looks and feels authentic. At the start I decided to keep the real life incident with that of the movie as separate cases, instead decided to watch it as a fictional story. The pacing is intense, the treatment of plot with three different investigations makes for an interesting retelling. The acting, script and direction are perfect.

The film has a Rashomon like narrative, putting different viewpoints and storylines in place and whetting your appetite with each reveal.
