Goon (2012)

Doug Glatt, a slacker who discovers he has a talent for brawling, is approached by a minor league hockey coach and invited to join the team as the "muscle." Despite the fact that Glatt can't skate, his best friend, Pat, convinces him to give it a shot, and Glatt becomes a hero to the team and their fans, until the league's reigning goon becomes threatened by Glatt's success and decides to even the score.

Great movie with out of this world funny comments/ actions. One of the best hockey gags yet!

It has all the right ingredients for an underdog story - loyalty, purpose, teamwork and love. Mix that with gratuitous violence and sailor-grade cussing, and you've got a must see guy movie.

Goon is a fascinating film staring a sweet, half-witted guy finding his talent in life. There is just enough violence to provide a closer look into the gruesome nature of hockey fights, yet not too much as to become gratuitous. The characters are all flawed individuals who seem to come to come to terms with their issues (with a few exceptions) in a realistic fashion. The overall visuals are striking, even if the slow motion is a bit abused at points. As a whole, this film is close to flawless and makes one want to punch whoever made the lockout decision in the face.

This movie is 100% perfect. I have absolutely no interest in hockey, and I still don't, but this movie is perfect.
