Godspeed (2009)

Joseph McKelheer and Cory Knauf (The Hamiltons, The Violent Kind) star in this intense thriller set in the lingering light of the Alaskan midnight sun. Charlie Shepard, a modern day faith healer with a small flock of believers, is stunned when his family is brutally murdered. Six months later a young, mysterious girl (Courtney Halverson) appears and becomes the link to his family's killing and the murderers themselves, ultimately leading to violent consequences for all.

What keeps Godspeed from lasting power are its melodramatic swerves and less-than-revelatory acting. But despite its fissures in tone and technique, Godspeed occasionally plays like a sturdy indie outpost of revenge cinema.

Don R. Lewis 30 Mar 2010

Intense, brutal, intriguing and expertly executed.

Jeannette Catsoulis 26 Mar 2010

A weird, wordy but oddly compelling thriller.

Aaron Hillis 24 Mar 2010

The tone fits the material and the performances are surprisingly measured, but Saitzyk's sappy pontifications on loss, redemption, and zealotry don't register as headily as they're meant to (every character gets at least one melodramatic speech), and the spirituality invoked feels about as sincere as the Christian who only attends Christmas mass.

"...intense, brutal, intriguing and expertly executed...easily one of the best indie films of the year." -- Don Lewis, Film Threat "Director Robert Saitzyk somehow manages the impossible and completely sidesteps the usual traps inherent in such Old Testamental material...with a powerful combination of grace and fury." -- Marc Savlov, The Austin Chronicle "Godspeed is poised to take the US by storm...the word is out: Godspeed packs one hell of a wallop. Go. See. Now." -- Jay Slater, Fangoria "McKelheer gives a tour de force performance.. An intense thriller that digs much deeper than the tale of violent retribution on the surface, and its themes are such that the film leaves a lasting impression on you longafter the credits roll." -- Jeremy Kirk, We are Movie Geeks
