******DO NOT WATCH TRAILER BEFORE VIEWING MOVIE******** A shining example of what Netflix-backed movies can achieve. A constantly evolving thriller that doubles as the one of the best Stephen King adaptions ever made. After a movie that relied on terrific performances, the ending felt so cheap. It would have been much more impactful if the story was left more opened-ended instead of attempting to wrap it up neatly in five minutes. Canned narration over the last five minutes just screams "I dunno how to end this." Imagine if Jessie was just finished telling her story to a kid and then she glances over at the TV where she sees a video of the sentencing of the moonlight man or sees his picture in the paper. Confronting him breaks the illusion. All performances were A+ , and I have to say this movie unsettled me in a way that no horror movie previous has achieved. Was not expecting that at all.

Makes a misstep in its final minutes, but the remainder of the film succeeds at building suspense, increasing our pulses, and making viewers care about one woman's struggle.

It would seem that Stephen King Films are back in full swing.

Gerald's Game is one of the scariest films I have ever seen; the film is scary on both figurative and literal levels. Moreover, the film possesses a strong and disturbing dramatic heft to it to the extent that it makes Jess's surreal delusions of despair, seem too intrinsic, making this film a difficult yet a must-watch.

Mike Flanagan is quickly putting together an impressive filmography and this slow burning story might be close to the best. Stephen King should be impressed with this film, it is very close to the source material and that isn't an easy feat with King's work. The actors are the key here and when I first learned of this film I was quite skeptical, like most King adaptions. I am eager to see what Flanagan is going to do next and I think he should stick to these character driven horror films. Netflix need to continue down this road of filmmaking, the big budget films won't appeal to the cinema bound market and with 1922 just around the corner, my subscription looks locked in for the next 6 months. 01-10-2017.
