Despite a charming young cast of leads, the live-action Gantz is an awkwardly paced array of stops and starts with some okay special effects that never quite reaches any potential it may have.

A seriously action-packed wealth of manga-inspired science fiction. Some really great moments of suspense, mystery, and special effects. The downside: the action weaves in and out of unrealistic dramatic moments that slow the film way down and don't make sense. This was only the first half of a two-parter and the filler really shows. An additional point off for the characters staring down their enemies for days at a time, instead of just shooting their guns. At the same time, I would love to see the sequel :)

Japanese action/thriller/psycho manga adapt kept me wanting more...a rare feat for any movie. Order of character kill-offs is *just* unpredictable enough, though character relationships are not developed and judging by the previews for the next one, I'm not convinced they will be in Gantz II & will probably be lost once again get lost beneath the action and mind-bending twists. Not that that's a bad thing. Hey though, let's enjoy what we can, because there's plenty.

It was a good adaptation but if your not a fan it could seem dull at times. The suits were on point. I watched the anime and didn't read the manga but I might start because there's more to Gantz beyond what the series showed. I actually liked the dubbing since it was done very well. I think the actors got the mood of the film down and the emotions right. But when I watch animes I always prefer to watch it subtitled because I like hearing how the original actors conveyed the words. I didn't understand why certain scenes were changed but other than that I can't wait to see what part 2 holds.
