Full Moon in Blue Water (1988)

Floyd, the owner of a bar on the Texas coast, has been depressed for a year after his wife disappeared in a swimming accident. He lives with his senile father-in-law "The General" and is helped by Jimmy, a former asylum inmate, and the good-natured Louise. The bar is rapidly losing money and Charlie wants to buy it cheaply before it becomes publicly known that a nearby bridge is to be built. Louise offers her savings to go into partnership with Floyd, but Floyd decides to sell when he is forced to pay his back taxes.

Full Moon in Blue Water is such a likable film in so many little ways that you want to forgive it for being so bad in so many big ones.

Vincent Canby 19 May 2003

In spite of the participation of a number of talented people, Full Moon in Blue Water is almost as immediately forgettable as its title.

Dennis Schwartz 03 Jun 2018

An insufferable sentimental comedy that resembles too much a TV sitcom to make for good cinema.

Shawn W 14 Apr 2015

Hackman just raises this movie up to a better than average tale about these bunch of quirky lovable losers.

Jonathan Rosenbaum 01 Nov 2016

Funny and appealing, this is the kind of quiet and assured Hollywood movie that used to be more common in the 50s; the local flavor is caught perfectly, and every member of the cast shines.
