Frightmare (1974)

In 1957, Dorothy and Edmund Yates were committed to an institution for the criminally insane, she for acts of murder and cannibalism and he for covering up her crimes. Fifteen years later, they are pronounced fit for society and released. However, in Dorothy's case the doctors may have jumped the gun a bit. Edmund and eldest daughter, Jackie, try to discover just how far Mother's bloodlust has taken her. Meanwhile, youngest daughter Debbie begins to explore the crazy roots of her family tree as fully as possible.

Low budget British 70s horror that starts well, but suffers from some risible plotting and slow pacing. That being said, the central performances by Rupert Davies and Sheila Keith are quite effective and the later scenes do approach something genuinely nightmarish. The screening was followed by a Q&A with director Pete Walker who came across as thoroughly pleasant and modest and still seemed to take old school exploitation delight in trying to ruffle liberal feathers.

Disturbing and creepy British horror film with a whole bunch of memorable moments. It's quite the creepy little film, mostly due to Stanley Myers' creepy score, Shelia Keith's odd ball performance, and, of course, Pete Walker's masterful direction. This is a hard movie to forget once you've seen it.

Quite a disturbing film, but still bloody good at the same time. Includes a very early appearence by Manuel (Andrew Sachs) getting his head cut off! Only 2mins into film! 70s dodgy horror at its best. Sheila Keith is frightening in this film (The scene on the train is just bizare and disturbing) she was such as underated actress. A great horror film that can make Silence of the Lambs look like Andy Pandy

Released from prison, a couple starts indulging their cannibalistic urges once again, and there's hints that their children may also suffer from the family curse. Watchable, but Jesus Christ the older female lead looks like Jonathan Winters in drag, which is amazingly distracting. Rental?

It had slow pacing, much like the Hammer films and other horror flick from the UK, which lead me to believe that it's a thing about british cinema. Besides that it was interesting enough, and out-there enough to be enjoyed. It's quite a kooky horror tale.
