In 1957, Dorothy and Edmund Yates were committed to an institution for the criminally insane, she for acts of murder and cannibalism and he for covering up her crimes. Fifteen years later, they are pronounced fit for society and released. However, in Dorothy's case the doctors may have jumped the gun a bit. Edmund and eldest daughter, Jackie, try to discover just how far Mother's bloodlust has taken her. Meanwhile, youngest daughter Debbie begins to explore the crazy roots of her family tree as fully as possible.

An astounding tale warning of the perils and price of care in the community well before the concept existed. Sheila Keith knows when to ham and when to hum, whatever I might mean by that, and makes the film's most terrifying moments those in which nothing much actually occurs beyond a few words and a couple of glances.

Film tres sanglant et violent mais porte par des acteurs professionnels inspires...On se laisse malgre tout entrainer dans le parcours horrible de cette famille liee par un gout peu commun pour le sang

If British gothic horror was typified by Hammer films, this is the British answer to American gothic horror films like SPIDER BABY and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. It's a dark, dank, even disturbing film, and it's Pete Walker's masterpiece.

Quite a disturbing film, but still bloody good at the same time. Includes a very early appearence by Manuel (Andrew Sachs) getting his head cut off! Only 2mins into film! 70s dodgy horror at its best. Sheila Keith is frightening in this film (The scene on the train is just bizare and disturbing) she was such as underated actress. A great horror film that can make Silence of the Lambs look like Andy Pandy

This is one heavy duty chiller, made all the better by several first rate performances. This is no lightweight movie, but genuine horror. Powerful and shocking in it's denoument. Sadly it is under-rated and nearly forgotten. Brilliant movie.
