Frankenfish (2004)

When the body of a man is found completely destroyed in the swamps in Louisiana, the medical investigator Sam Rivers is assigned to investigate the murder. He travels with the biologist Mary Callahan to the location where the victim lived in a floating house and he meets his family and friends. They find that Chinese snake-heads genetically engineered that belong to a wealthy hunter are attacking and killing the locals. While the group fights to survive, the hunter Jeff arrives with his team to hunt the predators.

Entertaining low budget B-movie about the inhabitants of a few boat-houses on a Louisianna swamp fending off a giant genetically engineered killer fish capable of breather on land. The kind of poor special effects that are always so bad they're good. Whether it's a stoner getting his head bitten off to a giant swamp monster getting stuck in a swampboat propeller

A pretty modern take on the fish-horror genre. And without the mood, charm and music as from it's sieblings from the 70's. Evil fish is always interesting though. a lot of blood and chopping of parts of bodies. And I have to say that the death of the lesbian biology expert is really surprising.

A lot better than i thought it would be. It ranks higher than many creature flicks i've watched recently, and could definitely watch this again at some point. The best part of this is that it doesn't follow the predictable route of other horrors, whereby you know who will survive and who won't. Aside from a few cheesy moments (in particular when some stoned hippie holds his head over the water), it managed to create action just when you least expected it. I thought it was going to become rather farfetched at the end when it introduced some 30 foot beast into the equation, just when you thought it was safe, but thankfullythis didn't last long enough to ruin what had been a pretty watchable film.
