Forgive and Forget (2000)

David O'Neil, a plasterer and mature student Theo have been best mates for fourteen years and are practically inseparable. However, their friendship has become strained as Theo is about to move in with his long-term girlfriend, photographer Hannah. A raging jealousy awakes in David and he starts scheming to break up the loving couple using Hannah's insecurities against them. When the couple eventually separate David is in a quandary about his next move and is forced to confront his long-hidden homosexuality and feelings towards Theo. Eventually, David decides to reveal his sexual orientation and deep love for Theo very publicly by arranging for them both to appear as guests on Judith Adams' talk-show, "forgive and forget", with tragic consequences for their friendship and David's family.

Ok this is the kind of film that will be hated by Bros Before Hoes kind of buds. The thing that I liked about this movie is that homosexuality was not portrayed stereotypically. No pretty boys... no feathered boas... just average looking bloke with drama unraveling their lives when one of them suddenly decided to come out of the closet. Steve John Shepherd was HOT! very hot.. he kinda remind me of a younger Dwayne Johnson only less....angrier...more milder and a great butt shot. Yummy!

Great framing if shots. Great colors. Camera work was brilliant. Great acting on an emotionally-charged subject as this one was. Great acting by Steve John Shepherd, John Sim and Laura Fraser. Bravo! Felt very real! :) Will watch it again this year, and spread it around.

I was decently surprised by this movie, because the story was sort of engaging, although it might have been the setting that captivated moreso than the movie as a whole. Still, worth seeing.

Forgive and Forget is TV drama film from back in the days when homosexuality and coming out was still A BIG DEAL in the public consciousness, and the media did their best to reflect this. However, as a vehicle for spreading the messages "it's OK to be gay" and "better out then in", Forgive and Forget feels strangely... bland... There's nothing wrong about it per se, but there's nothing new about it, either; we've seen it all before, and in it's effort not to cause offence, it fails to have that little something that could have made it more memorable. What's more, Steve John Shepherd performance as David is upstaged by John Simm's far better portrayal of Theo, making David almost a non-entity in this film, even though he is the main character and the one this conflict evolves around. It's Theo that gets our sympathy, not David, and that's just a bit odd and unbalanced.
