I believe this was Gene Kelly's first movie, and it was an impressive debut. I would definitely buy a war bond in the lobby after watching this movie.

a solid film with gene kelley and judy garland and director Berkeley though i was a little disappointed with Berkeley's lack of camera usage, he could have done a little more.

It was in this film the world first laid eyes on Gene Kelly - and what an introduction it was! Yes, it is a blatant pro war/USA propaganda film - 'what are you doing for the boys?' - the shame bestowed upon Kelly's Harry after intentionally injuring himself to avoid being drafted - the heroic reconciliation after he returns home with a medal - there's no denying the underlying tones here. From the point of view of someone so far removed from WW2, the war and what it involved for Americans is romanticised to the extreme here - but it's still a solid film, with wonderful turns from Kelly and Garland and the happy, romantic ending that makes the rocky trip worthwhile. The title song 'For me and my gal' sang as the pair unite for the first time and reunite in the closing scene, acts as the perfect bookend to a beautiful (and patriotic) story.

Si l'on accepte le fait que For Me and My Gal ne raconte absolument rien jusqu'à la dernière demi-heure où l'histoire se met enfin en branle (pour juste passer un petit message de propagande où on demande expressément au spectateur d'acheter des obligations de guerre, 1942 oblige) et qu'on assiste à près de 3 numéros de claquettes dans les 30 premières minutes, on peut passer un bon moment devant cette réalisation de Busby Berkeley. La première expérience cinématographique de Gene Kelly est très loin de ce qu'il a fait de meilleur, mais son association avec Judy Garland est excellente, les numéros musicaux sont remarquables, la séquence de guerre est assez intéressante pour l'époque et la bonne humeur de l'ensemble est communicative.
