I would have enjoyed this a lot more if the plot was fleshed out and cogent. Instead, it serves as a vehicle to move to multiple set pieces featuring the undeniably talented Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. I did enjoy the musical numbers and old-timey songs that were even old-timey when this movie came out. Not bad, but there are definitely far better musicals out there.

This is a lovely sweet picture about wartime America during the first World War (ironic as it was produced during the second). Coincidentally, it had a feel of advertising heroism and love that anyone can find overseas. No, this movie had everything including soul, but there was hardly any plot; just another one of those damn forced films of MGM for the sake of glory that they sought in the young, high-rising, gorgeous, powerful actress following her monstrous success in Wizard of Oz. Great start for Kelly though, and thank GOD.

Judy Garland. Gene Kelly. How could you not want to see these two on screen together. Me and My Gal delivers on the charms and the amazing voice of young Garland. And then there's that Busby Berkeley choreography, to die for.
