Fearless Hyena (1979)

Lung is a talented fighter but prefers to spend his time loafing around and picking fights, despite orders from his grandfather not to fight. Unknown to him, a brutal general has been slaughtering all the people from his grandfather's clan. When the general recognizes Lung's style of kung fu during one of his street fights, he hunts down Lung's grandfather and kills him.

Great training and fight sequences.. Typical early Hong Kong storyline and dialog but otherwise good.

Pretty good for an old Chan flick. The usual story. Chan fights tbadguy gets beaten and then must undergo training to beat the badguy in a grand finale.

Jackie Chan's first directorial effort; I would argue this is the best of his movies from the 1978-1982 "comedy chop socky" genre. It could be argued that Young Master is perhaps the more polished, better put together film, but none of his efforts (yes, not even Snake in Eagle's Shadow) can match the energy and naive charm of this 1979 classic. The action choreography is still in the wooden Lo Wei style he had for those years, but the fluidity is coming, and would culminate in Young Master and Dragon Lord years later. Worth watching.
