Black Belt Jones (1974)

Jones is a secret agent who has gone into semi-retirement, concentrating instead on teaching the martial arts to inner city youths. The karate school is run by a kindly old coot named Pops. His gambling debts, however, bring the local thug, Pinky, down on him. To make matters worse, Pinky is then hired by some white thugs who want to get a hold of the property Pops' school occupies so they can build a shopping mall. When things get heavy, Black Belt Jones leaps into action. Only he's not alone. Pops' daughter, Sidney, shows up to lend a hand, proving herself every bit as agile and powerful a martial artist as Jones.

BB keeps visiting third world dignitaries safe from the Man. But when Scatman's dojo is threatened by the Mob the gloves come off...with mandatory fat wiseguy spagetti eating scene. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

One of the best Kung Fu and Blaxploitation flicks out there. Jim Kelly will forever be the man.

I am a huge fan of blaxploitation, and this is probably my favorite of them all. Jim Kelly is my hero: a smooth talking lady's man with an afro that is always perfectly in place. Gloria Hendry kicks an equal amount of ass as his love interest and partner in whoop ass. The stock bad guys, hilarious, over-the-top mafiosa and jive-talking ghetto thugs, keep the laughs coming. The cast is rounded out by a variety of 70s black actors from TV and blaxploitation films. If you share the same love of 70s blaxploitation that Tarantino and I share, then you will absolutely dig it. I watch this film all the time. It never ceases to bring a smile to my face. Tarantino needs to bring Jim Kelly back to the screen for the younger generation.

Right on! A unique courtship karate fight, with killer dialogue like "my cookie would kill you" is just one of the many reasons to see this flick.
