One of the most poignant romance movies ever made, Fassbinder's heavy-handed drama with underlying themes of xenophobia and reluctance to try new things evokes the harshest and strongest human emotions.

The auteur's most accessible masterpiece deals with a tragic romance meant to collide either emotionally or ideologically at some point, despite the excessive and absolutely sickening immaturity of a surrounding community totally devoid of emotional intelligence.Fassbinder's spot-on direction hooks the viewer from the very first scene that starts after the initial credits until the abrupt ending. I have respect for the love and appreciation behind Harold and Maude (1971), yet it does not reach the accuracy and depth of this one. 99/100
