An international team of climbers ascends Mt. Everest in the spring of 1996. Great story and beautiful photography, but the way the doc was made is too old fashioned for me...

Probably one of the best Imax films going. David Breashears (the guy who shot most if not all of the film) did a presentation at Science World (where I work) and I've gotta say - knowing the background of some of the shots really helped make the movie "damn incredible!". I've probably seen it 100+ times, having worked in the theatre during it's run.. but it's a captivating film with a powerful story intertwined with the amazing shots typical of any good Imax film.

The only way to see this film is in it's original IMAX format. Seeing it that way is absolutely breathtaking and just a little bit terrifying.

How this film was made in such extreme conditions and how the camermen were able to provide such stellar footage, is beyond my understanding. The severe conditions the climbers faced while on the mountain is perfectly showcased here and unfortunately understood in a clear and sorrowful way, in the face of disaster; which this group experienced when losing 8 of its climbers on the way to the top of Everest....and the top of the world.
