In a sense, Bo Burnham has given the audience a mirror image of their early adolescent selves. However, not everything, such as technology, hasn't changed since the preceding generation. All generations of viewers may still relate to the fear, cringe, and want to fit in. Ellie did a fantastic job in the 8th grade role she was cast in by Bo. This article, which is not a movie, takes a chilly look at the risks and social awkwardness of growing up in the technological era, where increased sexuality and stimulation are prevalent in youth culture. Everyone should watch this movie, especially 8th graders who are transitioning to 9th grade, in my opinion.

A fantastic movie. Should be a must-see for all middle schoolers, especially those who don't struggle to fit in, so they can see what it's like for the kids who do. Elsie Fisher was brilliant. And the relationship between her and the Dad (Josh Hamilton) was beautiful and heartbreaking. I hope the nomination committees for SAG and the Oscars recognize this film. It deserves to get all the love that Lady Bird got last year.

An introverted teenaged girl is trying to get through a brutal eighth grade while preparing for high school. This movie was so sweet, innocent, real, hilarious. Easily one of the best coming-of-age movie I've seen. This movie hits every note perfectly. The kids are kids-immature, ignorant, innocent. The father was perfect. He was that lame parent you didn't want to hang out with. A perfect use of music to put into the main characters world. When the movie wants to be funny, it's hilarious. A perfect use of music to put into the main character's world. When it wants to scare you, it definitely does its job. When it wants to break your heart, it breaks it into a million pieces. I absolutely loved this movie. I laughed, I cried, I was revived. I loved this movie.

Easily one of the year's best films, a wonderful coming-of-age film written and directed by Bo Burnham. This is such a raw, authentic portrayal of middle school insecurities, dependence on social media, need for acceptance, and the anxieties all of these bring along. Elsie Fisher as Kayla, she gives a perfect, honest performance, one of the best of the year! And Josh Hamilton as her father, he gives a powerful monologue in this film - so touching in the way it's written and delivered. The father-daughter relationship here, it just feels so real. That's what I love most about this film. Everything feels just so genuine, as if you are getting an extremely personal look into the lives of real people, in a crucial time in their lives. This is a MUST-see film this year, full of awkward parent-child dynamics, understanding one's self, and dealing with everything that comes along with adolescence.
