Ecstasy is to ecstasy what Trainspotting was to heroin. Different times, different drugs, but the Scotland-set story of addiction and redemption is pretty much the same.

I saw this in Toronto at the North by Northeast (NXNE) festival. It took me back to my university days in England when I attended a few all night raves and witnessed some of the prevalent drug culture that surrounds such events. The cinematography and music was just right and made you feel that you were inside the dance clubs experiencing the atmosphere and excitement. I enjoyed the performances of Adam Sinclair, Carlo Rota and Billy Boyd who all played opposing neurotic characters. The movie highlighted the temporary perceived highs of ecstasy while showing how the reality of life can be a real downer.

Between a 3/10 and 4/10, there's referencing and then there's photocopying, and Ecstasy screams "toner low".

Whatever the title says, this is most definitely not Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy, but an agonisingly watered-down imitation, a long, languid come-down after the frenetic buzz of Trainspotting.

This is no Trainspotting. Saw it last night as part of Glasgow film festival. thoroughly disappointed. No offence to kristen but she had no place in the film, the main romance was totally unbelievable. Was not impressed by billy boyds performance, a shame he is capable. The bad guys were not bad enough. I could go on, for me it too big a departure from the book.
